Kooha

Elegantly record your screen. Capture your screen in an intuitive and straightforward way without distractions.

Kooha is an open-source, minimal screen recorder for Linux designed to capture your desktop cleanly without distraction. Built primarily in Rust using GTK4, LibAdwaita, and GStreamer under the GPL-3.0 license, it provides an intuitive, streamlined UI for Wayland and X11 environments.

The main features and capabilities of Kooha include:

  • Audio Capture Options: Record microphone input, desktop system audio, or both simultaneously.

  • Multiple Export Formats: Supports saving screen recordings directly as WebM, MP4, GIF, or Matroska (MKV) files.

  • Flexible Area Selection: Allows capturing an entire monitor or selecting a specific custom region of the screen.

  • Configurable Settings: Offers options to set custom file save locations, toggle mouse pointer visibility, adjust target frame rates, and set a start delay.

  • Experimental Features: Supports hardware-accelerated encoding, multiple video source capture, and individual window recording via KOOHA_EXPERIMENTAL environment flags.

  • Modern Linux Integration: Integrates natively with PipeWire, gstreamer-plugin-pipewire, and xdg-desktop-portal for desktop recording.
