I don't collect any personal data on my website except website metrics.

Website metrics

If you navigate on The whale website, the open-source tool Fathom installed on my server tracks you on my website without collecting personal data and give me a non-nerdy breakdown of my top content and top referrers. It does so with user-centric rights and privacy, and without selling, sharing or giving away the data collected. The collected metrics data are stored on my own server.

I also use the following third parties to help me communicate with my audience and sell advertises:

If you sign up to my newsletter, your data is being collected by the American newsletter service MailChimp which is GDPR compliant.

I use the personal data I collect to:

If you subscribed to my newsletter you can always unsubscribe from the it at any time by clicking on unsubscribe link in the newsletter footer. You can do this on your own but I am also happy to do this for you, if you want. Just let me know.

I will give you a copy of your data in a plain text format so that you can provide it to another service.

You have the right to file a complaint regarding our use of your data

Please tell me first, so I have a chance to address your concerns. If I fail in this, you can address any complaint to your national data protection authorities.

Cookies

My website does not set any cookies.

Analytics and tracking

I do not use any third party trackers, social media buttons or analytics services on my website. I only track your navigation on my web pages without collecting personal data with the open-source tool Fathom.

TLS encryption

The whale uses TLS encryption for security reasons and to protect the transmission of confidential data. You can recognize an encrypted connection in your browser's address line when it changes from "http://" to "https://" and when a green lock icon is displayed in your browser's address bar.

If TLS encryption is activated, the data you transfer to us cannot be read by third parties.

You can sign up to my weekly newsletter to receive my curated list of links (articles, web resources, web tools, jobs and events announcement) and news related to The whale or my personal activity. I never sign you up automatically. You have to use the sign up form on my website and confirm your subscription with the double-opt in process. To sign up I require and verify your email address.

MailChimp is offering extensive analytics tools to check if newsletters have been opened and links have been clicked. I only use those analytics to check how interesting and relevant my newsletters are for the entire list of subscribers over time. I never use them to analyze individual subscribers.

You can unsubscribe from my newsletter at any time. This can be done by using the unsubscribe link in every newsletter or by sending me an email at contact@whale.cc and I will handle it for you.
